Some highlights of our trip:

  • Opening night will feature a dessert reception with some truly interesting New Yorkers at a private story-telling slam event (on the subject “NY with a Jewish Twist”) for our group hosted at Congregation Rodef Shalom in the Upper West Side (celebrating its 175thanniversary this year) – we will choose the winner in this cash competitive event guest hosted by the NYC-based author and writer Amy Kline!
  • Urban historian Justin Ferate, our senior guide (award winning NYC tour guide – he trains the best guides in the City!), has opened the door for some amazing opportunities, including a private tour of the Otto Kahn Mansion and a private jazz salon in the Harlem home of a music doyenne.
  • Sharon Keller will offer a private guided tour of the Brooklyn Museum and has arranged a special visit to the Rebbe’s Ohel, the Jewish Center in Queens and the great stars of NY’s Yiddish Theater (as well as a side trip to Max & Mina’s for their famous ice- cream – Horse Radish Ice-Cream anyone?).
  • Barry Feldman will lead us on tours in the Upper East Side and Lower East Side as well as a special bus tour of the Bronx.
  • Marty Shore will take us on a new tour of the Upper West Side where we will visit Congregations Ohab Zedek, Shaare Zedek, Rodeph Shalom, Young Israel (formerly Temple Israel) & Shearith Israel. Also the venerable upper west side mecca: Zabars
  • We will enjoy a VIP tour of the 9-11 Memorial, including a meeting with Alice Greenwald (director of the memorial)
  • After a private breakfast at Russ & Daughters (LoxandWhite Fish this coming year!), you will have multiple, all-new, walking tour opportunities in the Lower East Side, including an option for a private event at the Tenement Museum.
  • Marc Michael Epstein will join us for some special Shabbat programs.
  • We will spend time with many of the Jewish though leaders who are re-shaping Judaism in America.
  • You will choose from many daily options, including a bike tour in Central Park and Pizza tasting tour in the Village.
  • David Kalb will lead us on a walking tour of Williamsburg, The Land of Hipsters and Chasidim
  • At our closing dinner hosted at the Center for Jewish history, we will explore the evolution of Jewish liturgy with some of the best prayer leaders in NYC.

Please visit this link to register.  Note that the cost per person with an early registration is $975 but does not cover flight or hotel (it’s a good time to book your flight and we have arranged a block room discount at the Beacon Hotel – call 212.787.1100 ext. 2 and reference Orange County Jewish Community Scholar Program).  As there is currently a great flight sale on Jet Blue, I just booked a round trip from Long to JFK leaving on Sunday April 30th at 1:30 PM on flight #514 and returning on Monday May 8th at 1:02 PM on flight #213.

There are some great shows on Broadway to consider booking now, including:Hamilton (of course), A Bronx TaleOslo and Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812 {best dates to book so as to avoid program conflicts, 5/3 and 5/6}

I hope you will join us for what will be another exciting trip into the heartland of American Judaism.

**Warning, there will be LOTS of walking and exploring, and you will have to make some itinerary choices each day. Maximum Group size: 50 people.
