Consider yourself as a pilgrim in the time of the Temple. As you approach the elevated Temple, the throng sings together, “Who may ascend the Mount of the Lord?” Psalm 22 is composed with verses whose halves are call and answer, conveying a collective celebration of faith and journey. In our own day, when we carry the Torah on a weekday we also sing Psalm 24. This Psalm, which begins “The earth is the Lord’s,”  is also an affirmation of God as Creator and is traditionally chanted as the Sunday Psalm.
